It really is a lot of fun to use natural dyes. Everytime I put the fabric in the dyepot there is a little leap of faith that it will work out as I hoped. Did I add enough onion skins? Did I soak or simmer it for long enough? What will happen if it was too long? These questions are usually followed by the thought "oooooh I wonder what colour it would give if I did that?"
